Todd Howard said that Starfield will not allow you to fly smoothly in space to 1,000 explorable planets, noting that this feature "isn't really important to the player."

Howard explained that although the main design philosophy focused on things like generating 100 solar systems, allowing players to explore more freely than in previous Bethesda games, the team rejected ideas that weren't necessary for the experiment.
