This video will go over how to read the periodic table (periodic table of elements) and determine if an element on the table of elements is a metal, nonmetal or metalloid. It is as easy as finding the “Staircase” on the periodic table. Any element to the left of the staircase is a metal, any element to the right of the staircase is a nonmetal and any element directly above or below the staircase is a metalloid. The exceptions are hydrogen and aluminum. Hydrogen is on the left of the staircase but it not a metal it is in fact a nonmetal. Aluminum is directly below the staircase but it is not a metalloid it is in fact a metal.

Before you can learn more about the periodic table trends (periodic trends) such as atomic radius,
Ionization energy trend etc. It is critical that you are able to identify metals, nonmetals and metalloids on the periodic table (periodic table of elements) so that you are able to predict periodic trends such as electronegativity trend, atomic radius trend etc.
