It's the 50th Anniversary of the 1972 TV horror classic, "The Night Stalker," starring Darren McGavin in his first appearance as one of his most beloved and iconic characters, Carl Kolchak, a bumbling newspaper reporter on the hunt for vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and demons--and stop them from acquiring more unsuspecting victims. "The Night Stalker," the ABC made-for-TV movie, which pit Kolchak against his first vampire foe, was followed by a second film, "The Night Strangler" in 1973, and finally the TV series, "Kolchak: The Night Stalker," (1974-1975) which remains in syndication to this day, including on the classic TV broadcast channel, MeTV. However, while many are familiar with the TV series through its reruns, the two original pilot movies are rarely seen. Film preservation company, Kino Lorber, has recently released remastered high-definition Blu-ray editions of both original films, as well as the complete TV series, in three separate box sets. In this latest segment of "Moonjumper's Amazon Reviews," Moonjumper discusses the excellent quality of these Kino Lorber blu-rays, the original film, and its lasting legacy.
