New mandates push pause on high school sports

The governor’s new mandates regarding the pandemic have pushed the pause button on high school sports... again. Not that high school sports were going on in the state, but there was a bit of hope for athletes and coaches when the state allowed for indoor workouts. Now? Well, it’s a bit confusing, but school districts in Clark County are suspending indoor workouts. Outdoor workouts, in small pods, are still allowed. The governor’s new regulations say that all indoor activities and all games are prohibited. The governor’s new regulations also say that K-12 learning is exempt from the new regulations and can continue with current guidelines. Current guidelines would mean districts could continue indoor workouts, right? Not exactly. The governor’s office probably was not talking about athletics. Until there is clarification, school districts in Southwest Washington are erring on the side of caution. No indoor workouts. And high school athletes play the waiting game again.
