So...

Want to do REAL camping in Japan? Wild camping? This Bushcraft Camping Vlog was in Yamanashi Japan mountains at Ichinose Kogen Campgrounds near Okutama in Chichibu Tama Kai National Park with Mr. Harry I. Bushcraft Collaboration camp IV for us. Know where that is? Near Tokyo about 2 hours west in the mountains towards Yamanashi wine country. Anyway, Harry-san thoroughly enjoys Japan nature as do I. He has become a good friend and teacher. Check out his channel below for woodlore and bushcraft. His videos are in Japanese but he provides English subtitles which is great!

Summary:

Mr. Harry I. and I arrived at Ichinose Kogen Campgrounds in late November on a weekday. Almost nobody was there. Yes, Ichinoe is a campground "officially" but once you pay at the cabin you have free reign to enter the mountain and set up camp. There is no official campground. It's about as close to wild camping without actually being wild camping in Japan.

We climbed to the top of the mountain site #3 which is considered the bushcraft area. It's the most wooded part of the site. While you cant randomly cut down trees there is plenty of deadfall to build tripods, fire reflector. What ever your hearts desire.

I built a trip for my Polish Lavvu. Harry built a tripod for his tarp. Firewood was gathered using out axes and bucksaws.

At night a saw they eyes of close to 50 deer. It was a strange experience seeing all those glowing eyes.

The next morning we had breakfast where I cooked pancakes in a sandwich maker. That was delicious. Then we gathered wood to make a fire reflector. Harry I. wanted to cook a chicken on a fire spit that evening.

We flew our drones around for fun and searched for additional dry firewood. The mountain remained empty on this weekday.

We drank some beers and Jack Daniels and talked deep into the night.
