Cops shot a robbery suspect disguised in a wig during an exchange of gunfire in the vestibule of a Dollar Tree in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, police said.

The shootout erupted around 5 p.m. after two uniformed officers confronted the 45-year-old man as he tried to flee with money that he allegedly stole at gunpoint moments earlier from a store cash register, according to NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey.

“He got the money and he was running out of the store,” a witness who identified himself as Bobby recalled to The Post.

“He was running out and ran right into the two cops. From there I’m on the phone and I hear ‘pop, pop,’” said the witness, whose wife was inside the store during the mayhem.

Police were tipped off to the robbery after store workers recognized the suspect from another cash register theft at the location on Sunday morning and called 911, Corey said.

The man, who didn’t use a gun in the first alleged crime, made off with an undisclosed amount of dough, Corey said.

“The store clerk in the 911 call is saying ‘he’s back here, he robbed us last week. He’s back here wearing a wig but I know it’s him,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner John Miller told reporters after the press conference.

When the two male officers ran into the suspect Tuesday, a fight first broke out before the bullets started flying.

“They were physically wrestling,” Corey said.

The suspect then opened fire, prompting one of the officers – a 16-year veteran of the force – to respond with his own weapon, striking the suspect in the neck, Chief Corey said.

The officers were not struck in the shooting, police said. They were taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

The suspect was taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical, but stable condition, police said.

A firearm was recovered from the scene.

Sources said the suspect has over 40 prior arrests. Charges against him connected to Tuesday’s chaos were pending.
