Sunday Longplay - F-Zero: The Secret Master Tracks (SNES ROM Hack)

This week on Sunday Longplay, my celebration of F-Zero's 30th anniversary continues with another set of custom-made tracks! This is another hack by the creator of the previous hack I played last week. Welcome to F-Zero: The Secret Master Tracks!

This is one of HeavyMetalRocker's earliest hacks, and "Master Tracks" seems like a fitting title, because even some of the earlier tracks in the Knight League can easily trip you up, from the winding turns and the hairpin in the wind on Death Wind 1 (taken further in Death Wind 2, though thankfully not to the extent that Burakki took it!), to the chicane minefields in Mute City 1, to a new trick that I had never seen another hack do before. I've seen a few hacks make a situation where you have to hit a jump plate and make a midair turn to land on the next section of the track safely (The Revenge's White Land 2 immediately comes to mind), but Fire Field in this hack is the only time I've ever seen you have to make a hairpin in midair like that! The midair turn makes a return in Mute City 3, but not in hairpin form. The King League actually isn't terribly difficult other than Sand Ocean, which throws everything but the kitchen sink at you, from icy hairpins to narrow magnetic roads to minefields, to a double hairpin S-turn, to a series of jumps that requires moving to either side in midair to hit the next section. I love a good challenge, and this hack delivered!
