5 Prepper Must Haves in 2022 | Urban Survival | City Survival
Today I’m going to talk about the 5 must haves for a prepper, but there is a caveat to this, this is for those urban jungle dwellers who will be stuck in the city. If you already have land and a place carved out, some of this stuff may not pertain to you.
1 Backpack- Now if you are stuck in the inner city or the concrete jungle and don’t have a car, you’re going to need a backpack. Depending on weather, location and possible extra gear, the type of backpack you get is important.
2. Mesh and Cotton clothing. This may not seem like a big deal, but when it comes to hygiene and not being able to take a shower for days, mesh clothing will eliminate bacteria because its basically plastic. I like to have thick cotton shirts to keep me warm on the cool and cold days. My favorite shirts are Carhartt’s, link in the description. Also, I love Carhartt's because they have shirt pockets for my smokes.
3. Tarp – Now I bet you think I’m crazy, but being in Florida during rainy season, a tarp was the best thing that I had. Now, when you get a tarp, you want to sleep in the middle and fold the edges around you, top over bottom. You also want to make sure you’re sleeping on a slope so that if a tiny bit of water makes it through the edges, it will drain out keeping you dry in everything except a flash flood.
4. Companion – Should you be homeless because of an SHTF situation, having a companion is important. If you have a dog, people will take pity on the dog and feed it before they feed you, but you will get a little big of food. So an animal can be more than just a guard, it can also be used as a way to ensure that you can at least eat. If you don’t want to have an animal, having a road dog is the next best thing, which is what I may refer to you as from time to time. Road dogs is that one person you can count on to have you back when protecting yourself from hobo raiders and to just share the work load. Having more people the better, but choose who you associate with carefully.
5. Money Making Gear – You’re going to be going outside to live, but that doesn’t mean you have to be broke. I made better money homeless that I ever did as an employee and everything I did was legit. If you don’t have any money left over for your money making gear, don’t worry there are ways to make money without panhandling, etc. This time, when I had to close down my business due to the pandemic, I took my last $700 and bought a camera and a couple months of subscription services to get me started. Now, that was last summer, things have changed and I’ve had a channel deleted already. Having that gear along with my laptop that I bought at the start of the pandemic because I had a hunch this would happen. With those two pieces of equipment I can now offer my services to businesses and residence. It doesn’t matter if I know what I’m doing at the start, I have plenty of free time to learn now that the world hast hit the fan. Prices have gone up since the start of the pandemic, but with $700 I was able to afford my money making gear.
All in all, if you had $1,000 to spend, this is what I’d spend it on. You might think that when it hits the fan for you that you won’t have that money, but you will if you’re smart and are willing to accept what’s coming. When I know I’m about to go homeless, I work a little bit more to make a little extra money and then I take that last paycheck and put it towards making sure I have what I need to survive for the long term instead of the short term rental situation. I think being homeless has a stigma attached to it, all it means is that you fell on your face and that you’re picking yourself back up. Because of the way society treats homeless it makes it harder for them to get off the streets and stay away from the drugs, in a lot of way the streets turn people into drug addicts because most people didn’t end up there because of drugs to start with, it just became a coping mechanism.
