EP 136 | The Southern Baptist Convention Faces Showdown Over Sexual Abuse Responses

There is an election coming, no not the 2022 congressional elections, but the election for the presidency of the Southern Baptist Convention, or SBC, in just days. My guest today is a candidate for that office and his latest article in The Federalist starts with this “There is no question that the Southern Baptist Convention is facing a moment of reckoning. The SBC is a free association of churches, and trust is its connective tissue. The release of the Guidepost Solutions report on the Executive Committee’s response to Sexual Abuse Allegations has revealed horrifying accounts of broken trust. It is clear that our local churches and some of our SBC leaders have at times failed by mishandling or even covering up abuse allegations involving their friends.” SBC Presidential Candidate Tom Ascol has served as a Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, FL since 1986 and he says the SBC is in need of a change in direction. Over the last few years the SBC leadership has increasingly attempted to turn the SBC toward today’s secular social culture instead of away from it. The revelations in the sexual abuse response report is only the tip of the iceberg as SBC leaders are embroiled in serious issues concerning critical race theory, social justice, and the woke culture advocating for, and acting on, sexualizing children.
