Muslims face a problem. They believe the Quran is the literal word of God and that the hadith reflect the perfect wisdom of their prophet. Yet, they found MANY contradictions within the texts. Scholars came up with a solution - the Doctrine of Abrogation, which claims that a command of Allah or Muhammad can be superseded/invalidated by a later command of Allah or Muhammad. Many non-Muslims know about the existence of abrogation, but few understand how it works. For example, it is not widely know that a hadith can abrogate the Quran. Modern Muslim apologists take advantage of this ignorance, by alternatively claiming abrogation doesn't exist or using it to explain away every problem someone raises.

I joined Thaddeus live to discuss the problem by looking at a textbook on the subject by Yasir Qadhi.
