Major Nidal Hasan, a United States Army Medical Corps psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded 32 others when he went to jihad for Allah. Few are aware he wrote a manifesto, explaining his Quranic reasons for the attack.
He is not an extremist, he was merely applying Islam strictly, a doctrine called azima, precisely as "a small minority" of Muslims are legally obligated to do. The rest follow rukhsa, the doctrine of dispensation.
