Fix Grinding Noise in Your Washing Machine for FREE - Whirlpool, Admiral, Amana, Maytag, Kenmore...

I got this Admiral washing machine Type 587-07 off the curb for FREE. The owner threw it away because it had a bad grinding noise when in the agitation cycle. So I suspected a bad bearing, or something else in the $200 transmission probably bad. I was WRONG! In the process of troubleshooting the issue, I had to learn what a SPLUTCH is and how best to fix this noise on this particular type of top loader Whirlpool-made washer. Here are the model numbers possibly affected by this problem to which this cheap and easy fix might apply:

Whirlpool Model WTW4816FW
Admiral Model ATW4675YQ1
Amana Model NTW4516FW
Maytag Model MVWC565FW
Kenmore Model 11020022012

There are probably other model number variations which will be affected by this, some older and some newer, but all of these machines are built on the same chassis and basic mechanics. There may be some differences in functions or options, but they are surface level. They're really all the same basic machine.
