Density Calculations - 1 Minute Lesson (Made Extremely EASY!)

This video will go over the easy way to calculate density. Density is the relationship of mass to volume. Generally speaking the units for a solid or liquid object are grams per milliliter (mL) or grams (g) per centimeter cubed (cm3). The density of a gas is generally grams (g) per liter (L). This sort of question is typical on chemistry exams and you would do yourself a huge favor to be very
familiar with these types of calculations and you can do well in chemistry!

There are two methods to determine volume: direct measurement and volume by displacement. Direct measurement requires that there is a mathematical formula to calculate volume such as Volume = length x width x height (V = L x W x H).

Density calculations are simple. Calculating density should not be intimidating.

Performing a volume by displacement requires a volume measuring device such as a graduated cylinder with a known volume of water (initial volume Vi). The object of interest is submerged into the water. The water level will rise providing a new volume (final volume Vf). To determine the volume of the object (Vo or Vobject) = final volume (Vf) - initial volume (Vi).

Density is mass divided by volume (D = m/v)
