In 1988, the South Korean government enacted a law preventing doctors from revealing the gender of unborn babies. This was done to prevent abortions carried out on girls. In Korea, parents prefer sons to daughters and the government tried to address this imbalance.
But in the video, I show how this law was ignored by using the statistics.
In 2008 the law was overturned because the ratio of males to females became more balanced and their was a huge campaign to extol the virtues of daughters.
It's also worth noting that almost all abortions were illegal in South Korea until 2021. But this law was ignored by the authorities because the population of the country was spiraling out of control and therefore the government saw abortions as a good way to control the population.
