📍 The Fletcher Hills are a low set of mountains that reside in the Peninsular Ranges of southwestern San Diego County. However, today we are discussing the neighborhood founded in parts of El Cajon and La Mesa. This area was actually developed in 1927 by a man named Ed Fletcher.
Fletcher was originally from Littleton Massachusetts, but at age 15 and with just barely $6 in his pocket, he came alone to California where he would start selling fresh produce door to door.
As he grew up he started to get into real estate, and he later partnered with silent film actor and producer William J. Gross. Together they developed Grossmont, Mt. Helix, and even parts of Del Mar.
Fletcher Hills has a great central location to many schools, community centers, parks, shopping centers and so much more.

HOUSING
Fletcher Hills has a very wide variety of housing options. Whether it is a group of roommates, a family, or even if you’re looking for a place on your own, the area provides it all. The area has housing ranging from attached homes: condos, townhouses, lofts, etc. to single family homes. Pricing ranges anywhere from the low 300’s up to million dollar homes.
Lot sizes can be up to 5 acres large, with 1-9 bedrooms, and 1-4 bathrooms. So Fletcher Hills really offers a little bit of everything.
SCHOOLS
With parts of Fletcher Hills in both El Cajon and La Mesa, the location gives a little more of an opportunity when choosing schools. Grade schools like Northmont Elementary, Gage Elementary, Fletcher Hills Elementary. Middle schools like Pershing, Cajon Valley, Greenfield, and Foothills. For High Schools you have Grossmont, Chaparral, Public, El Cajon Valley, and Foothills Christian. Lastly, you have Grossmont Junior College to the North, and San Diego State University just southwest, so a great area to commute short distances.
COMMUNITY CENTERS
The community has a lot to offer for the public. Looking for a good read? Head over to the Fletcher Hills branch of the San Diego Library to find and check out your next book.
Fletcher Hills also offers a location to finally reach that new year's resolution, and you can get your sweat on at the recreation center and pool.
The community has a great location with a huge lawn/baseball area across from the center to enjoy many activities.
GROSSMONT CENTER
The Grossmont Center is one of the best areas for families to shop, eat, enjoy, and run their plethora of errands.
Grocery shopping can be done at Trader Joe’s. You also have main anchor stores like Target, Walmart, and Restoration Hardware Outlet.
Catch a movie when Reading Cinemas is clear to open up again, or grab some lunch or dinner at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse or Hooley’s Public House.
Another key component of Grossmont Center is that health services are all located in the same area either at Grossmont Medical Hospital, or the mall itself!
