Its Time To Take Them At Their Word

Am I alone in feeling that there is something strange about current events? Is it just because I have been thrown into the middle of everything? I never imagined a day when American politicians would be calling for their political rivals to be removed from office, have their voices silenced in all public forums, and that they and anyone with similar views need to be sent to reeducation camps.

I was under the impression that this was the sort of thing that set
America apart. This is not supposed to happen in the capitol of the free world.

As all of this has been happening I, along with a lot of other people, have been dismissing the crazy talk as just that, crazy talk. It has all been excused as bombastic language intended to please their local constituents. Now, as I look at an inauguration being watched over by an army with authorization to use lethal force, I am starting to think it's not just crazy talk, and that they actually mean it.

I find myself wondering if there were people in Nazi Germany reassuring their Jewish neighbors, "don't worry, there's no way they actually mean what they are saying, that's just crazy!". Yes, I am going there, because this is what we are seeing now. Its time to take them at their word. When they say they are going to come after you, its time to start preparing for it.

A lot of this could be reflected in the early days of communist China. Im sure the landlords and business owners were telling themselves that the communists sitting in the forbidden city weren't really going to come after their property. They must have believed there was no way the leaders would sacrifice the economy over some crazy social ideas, but we know how that story ended.

I am also greatly disturbed that the capitol is occupied by 25k+ armed soldiers with authorization to use deadly force. The most disturbing part about the situation is that deadly force is intended to be used on American citizens. It is jarring when we hear about presidents ordering the death of an American citizen overseas via drone strike, but we are talking about soldiers potentially being used against our own people on American soil.

There is a lot of talk on both sides going back and forth across the internet. I can't really comment too much on it, because Im not really in the know. I guess we will be watching very closely tomorrow to see what happens.
