Well then, why not book a spot and do all the above while visiting the marvelous Lake Jennings Campground in Lakeside, California!
Lake Jennings is located at 9535 Harritt Road in Lakeside County. The 85 acre artificial lake is owned by the Helix Water District. It was originally constructed in efforts to provide residents with water and also a water treatment facility in 1964. Today the lake offers a great appeal of activities for everyone.
HIKING
Lake Jennings is perfect for a day trip. The lake has a flat, perimeter trail that spans 5.5 miles. This loop also connects to other trails such as the 5 mile hike to the old flume bench along the ridge of El Monte Valley. The loop is available to visitors during hours of Friday through Sunday. You must also purchase a two dollar permit to access these trails, proceeds which go to maintain the area. A great deal!
Currently, Lake Jennings is in the process of doing maintenance to the entire trail system, so there is lots coming soon!
FISHING
Lake Jenning’s main attraction is the year round fishing they offer. The lake stocks up to 30,000 pounds of fish annually. 20,000 pounds are Rainbow Trout that are imported from Thatcher, Idaho. The trout fishing season is from November to April.
The remaining 10,000 pounds of catfish also includes a night fishing program, when they tend to be more active. This takes place from Memorial Day to Labor Day Weekend. Fishing permits can be purchased at the Campground Check-In Station.
So who is going to try their hand in beating the current record catch of an 84.4 pound catfish back in January of this year?!
BOATING
The fishing is some of the best in the county because you can also cast your line out from one of the 16 foot Carolina Skiff’s that the lake offers for rent. These boats can have up to five people aboard, and also maintains a no wake restriction to ensure that others fishing around you can enjoy their time just as much!
Paddle boats and kayaks are also available for those who are interested in sightseeing, and looking for a bit of exercise too!
CAMPING
I know what you are thinking. How could I possibly cram all this activity into a single day? Luckily, Lake Jennings offers an array of availability for those to camp.
This includes recreational vehicles, which include 35 full hookup sites. These include water, electricity, and sewage as well. There are 17 partial hookup sites that only include full water and electricity. Finally, they offer 39 no hookup tent sites and 5 tipi sites for an overnight stay.
In addition to the sites, the campground includes well kept and clean restrooms and 24 hour hot water showers.
EXTRA AMENITIES
The amenities do not stop there. The campground also provides a play area for kids, ladder golf, horseshoe, ping pong, life-size Jenga, tetherball, and cornhole.
Just in case you need some extra firewood, ice, or propane stop by the station. Swing by the bait and tackle shop if you want to redesign your rig.
Lastly, they include a half closed pavilion, picnic tables, and fire rings for all to enjoy throughout their stay.
