Taiwan launches F-16 maintenance hub amidst rising tensions with China

Amidst rising tensions between Taipei and Beijing, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen launched a US-backed maintenance hub for the island’s fleet of upgraded F-16 fighter jets. Fears of conflict are being raised by frequent Chinese and US military exercises in the region, which Beijing claims as its own territory. Following Taiwan’s USD 8 billion deal with the US in 2019 for additional F-16 fighter jets, the island is poised to boast of a fleet of more than 200 jets.
