Toe side turn, specifically, the frontside bottom turn. Bottom turns are regarded as the most important turn because it will set up all other turns.

Two takeaways:

1) Reach with your back arm and torque it way behind you. Doing this will put weight on your back leg.

2) Try and match your bottom turn to the top turn you intend to do.
a. If you plan to do a vertical top turn, then go further to the bottom and drive a very tight radius bottom turn.
b. If you plan to do a wrap/rounded top turn, make sure to come off the bottom with a well rounded bottom turn and don't go too far into the gutter.
c. If you plan to do a round house cutback, keep your bottom turn shallow and lateral to the wave.

Watch the video, you will see me and at the end, Mick Fanning reach back with his back arm. Also, generally speaking, his turns are symmetrical figure 8's.
