Homeschool Teenagers with the Charlotte Mason Method of Homeschooling / Charlotte Mason Homeschool

The Charlotte Mason Method of Homeschooling has become my favorite for homeschooling Teenagers.

We are a homeschooling family with five kids at home, six kids total. Our channel is about large family life, homeschooling, and finding the blessing in everyday. I am currently homeschooling a teenager, two elementary aged children and a preschooler. (I am also homeschooling our toddler-but some people don’t consider that homeschool-I do!)

In today’s video I’m going to tell you how the charlotte mason method works for homeschooling teenagers in our home. The charlotte mason method did not work out very well for us in the younger years, but these middle school years work so well with charlotte mason.

Charlotte mason is all about living books. Living book and habits that you form that will take you through the rest of your life. Teenagers need structure stability and they crave independence. I use funschooling journals by the thinking tree along with the charlotte mason method.

I have adapted the charlotte mason method from multiple books at one time to one book at a time. Almost like a unit study. This gives my son more independence and keeps him accountable for his education. Obviously he is not 100% on his own for his education. I still sit and discuss things with him, but he utilizes his funschooling journals as dictation. Not only that he can draw and doodle his thoughts, and then I can go back into the funschooling journals and write down questions and open up our dialogue that way.

AMBLESIDE online has a lot of amazing books on their book list. This is where I go to find the living books I use in our homeschool. I love that charlotte mason books can be so easily found on AMBLESIDE online.com

Habit training for my teenagers, charlotte mason is very pationate about habit training from the early early toddler years. You are habit training without even knowing it. These are just things that you expect your children to do everyday. Good habits, brushing teeth, changing clothes, showering, etc.

Instilling amazing habits like daily devotions, reading, cleaning up after themselves, are just the beginning of charlotte mason’s habit training.

The charlotte mason method does this very gently, one habit at a time. If you were to do a lot of habits all at once it would be extremely overwhelming. Take it easy, little bits at a time...

Along with the charlotte mason method we are still sticking with the good and the beautiful for language arts and history. Teaching textbooks has been working amazingly for math too, so we are going to keep that.

Not everyday is easy, but everyday is a blessing.

Here on our channel I create a lot of homeschooling content. We are currently using The Good and The Beautiful curriculum for language arts and history.

For math we are really enjoying teaching textbooks. I heard about teaching textbooks through some other amazing homeschooling mamas and we have really grown to love it.
