Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Siksika Nation Nioksskaistamik (Chief) Ouray Crowfoot and Crown-Relations Minister Marc Miller hold a news conference in Siksika, Alberta, following a signing ceremony for a land-claim settlement. In December 2021, members of the Siksika Nation voted to accept a one-time settlement payment of $1.3 billion from the federal government over a wrongful land surrender of 115,000 acres from their reserve dating back to 1910. The prime minister also responds to questions about the federal government granting a three-year exemption to British Columbia to decriminalize the possession of certain illicit drugs to deal with the opioid crisis. Trudeau is also asked about criticism from former finance minister Bill Morneau on the Liberal government's economic policies. Morneau made the critique the previous evening in his first public speech since leaving political life in 2020.
