Dash, body cam video shows deadly shooting in Marysville involving Union County deputy

The Union County Sheriff's Office has released video of a deadly shooting involving a deputy in Marysville.

Dash and body-cam video show Deputy Jacob Matejko fatally shooting 33-year-old Matthew Todhunter, who was parked in his truck and was there for an apparent child custody exchange.

Marysville Police said the dispatch center received a 911 call about reports of a man pointing a gun at people and saying that he was going to die. That's when Matejko arrived on the scene on Meadowlark Lane around 6:45 p.m. Monday.

Matejko can be heard telling Todhunter to exit his truck and to put his hands up.

The video then shows Todhunter getting out of his truck and pulling what appears to be a handgun on Matejko. Matejko can be heard telling Todhunter to drop the gun before firing multiple shots.

Afterward, a woman on the scene yelled that Todhunter was carrying a BB gun. Deputies had to drag her away as she tried to perform CPR on him.

Matejko has been with the Union County Sheriff's Office since 2017 and has been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is completed.

Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton said he didn't want to comment on this specific incident because the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is still investigating, but said calls to critical situations with chaotic scenes can be tough.

"Responding law enforcement officers have to make critical decisions at the split second where an immediate threat is at hand," Patton said.
