Home Design and Remodeling Trends 2021. We look at the real estate market regularly and in the beginning of each year we talk about the Home Design and Remodeling Trends we are likely to see ahead.

My clients are always asking me what they can do to increase their home’s value.
This past year we saw an incredible shift in the day-to-day operations of the world. Offices shuttered, daily commutes ended, and we tried to do it all—from home schooling to working out to therapy to stay-cations—in our homes vs vacations….
According to a study, 36.2 million Americans (22% of the workforce) will be working remotely by 2025, which is an 87% increase from the number of remote workers prior to the pandemic. The pandemic continues to teach us new ways to maximize the uses of the space that we’re spending time in and are now seeking expert advice on what rooms or areas in their home can take on a new life.

1. Dedicated home office is usually at the top of the highest priority list. In 2021 (and beyond) home offices will be more important than ever. If you don’t have a spare room for an office be creative. In fact, one of the biggest trends on Pinterest this year is the rise of the "cloffice," a portmanteau of "closet" and "office." On that note, focus on creating Zoom-worthy backgrounds, create a stylish backdrop for a meeting, not to mention make our homes more enjoyable to be in. The trend is expected to continue.
2. Clearly delineated spaces- rethinking the open floor plan. While no permanent walls are being built, many people are considering sliding doors or decorative partitions that can close off rooms for much-needed privacy. The trend will be to create different living spaces within the open floor plan for e-learning, Zoom calls, a conversation, lounging, exercising, etc. The need for separate spaces is also shifting home buyers’ priorities in the new year.
3. Bringing Outdoors in and Indoor out - Houseplants and indoor gardens. Love plants, but don’t have the horizontal square footage to put in a garden? How about a vertical garden? Also known as a living wall or a green wall, a vertical garden makes use of wall-mounted planters or a frame to support an assortment of foliage.
4. Kitchen- In line with the houseplant trend, natural materials are having a “huge moment," Organic touches are also sprouting up in the heart of the home: the kitchen. More natural look with light wood-grain cabinets and countertops on islands, all-white or gray kitchen and cabinets are out.
5. Another emerging trend going even stronger this year, touchless appliances, motion activated faucets and lighting.
6. Outdoor kitchens are also hugely popular. An outdoor kitchen can be as elaborate (read: expensive) or as modest as you like.
