How to Prevent Missed Social Security Disability Deadlines, Appeals

Could your Social Security disability application (or appeal) be
dismissed because SSA’s notices to you got lost in the mail?

Unfortunately the answer is “YES!” and even worse, you are NOT allowed
to appeal this dismissal even if the missed deadlines were not your fault.

Social Security takes a VERY unforgiving approach to missed deadlines!

If you are denied, you have only 60 days to file your appeal - miss that deadline
and you have to start over. Social Security does not care if the post office lost your
mail or even if their letter to you arrives late and you can prove that the post office
was at fault.

So how do you protect yourself?

In this video, I discuss THREE STEPS that we take in our office to protect our clients against lost mail or late mailings by Social Security. The key is to know what is supposed to happen so that you will recognize that something is wrong.

I also recommend that if you file your appeals online, you print out copies of all pages you submitted and any page generated by SSA’s system with a confirmation number on it.

Social Security is a huge government agency that is processing hundreds of thousands of claims every day with too few staff using outdated software under emergency work at home rules.
