Legacy Conversations – James Teitge – English 6 (Parachuting)

Regimental Sergeant Major James Teitge speaks to us about his 37.5 years in South African Special Forces. He was the longest-serving member in Special Forces history starting in 1978 and ending in 2014 when he went on pension. During his career, he went on many operations, spectacular ones, often as a team leader. Later he became the RSM of 5 Recce and so much more. He completed 53 courses during his career making him almost certainly the most qualified operator in history.
In this episode, he speaks about military parachuting from static line to HALO HAHO to Display Jumps and much more. He was an instructor besides holding national colours in the sport. A man that conducted many operational (combat) jumps behind enemy lines, almost always at night in small groups of men. A fascinating conversation answering and dispelling many myths regarding parachuting. He also confirms many others, i.e. that you need good teeth to do a HALO or HAHO jump or the cavities will explode. If you have questions for the RSM please leave them below.
