Superstar was written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett in 1969. Better Midler recorded this song. Richard Carpenter had heard her performance it on the tonight show starring Johnny Carson and he liked the song so the Carpenters recorded it and had a big hit with it. Karen Carpenter needed only one take! I sing and play it on acoustic guitar using a simple fingerpicking pattern. Also I made up two new verses using titles and lyrics from other Carpenters songs. I did a short intro explaining some of the songs history before singing it.
