Surveillance video shows Bethel Park officer being run over by a pickup truck

A Bethel Park officer was hit by a pick-up truck Friday night.

The Bethel Park chief confirmed an officer was evaluated by EMS after he was hit by a vehicle. The officer was taken to a hospital and his condition is unknown.

The truck took off on Bethel Church Road towards Route 88, the chief said. The driver was eventually taken into custody.

A witness said he was down the road at Bruster's when he noticed a driver becoming impatient with traffic. There's construction happening on Library Road where the accident was.

The witness said he watched the driver just go straight through the intersection and hit the officer.

"Honestly, this is the worst I've ever witnessed, so it's really shocking, because you would think that somebody would just have a little bit more patience to wait and get through the intersection when they're guided to," Tyler John said.

The incident is the second time just this month a Bethel Park officer has been hit by a driver. Last week, police said an officer was injured in a hit-and-run involving an impaired driver with 14 prior DUI convictions.

Police have not identified the person taken into custody in Friday's crash.

County police were also on scene along with a collision reconstruction unit.
