Both men have identical noses, eyebrows, as well as incredibly similar incision and eye structure.

It is worth noting that suspicions that Kirill and Japonchik may in fact be one person have been actively raised before. Thus, in particular, in 2016, a group of domestic bloggers conducted their own comparison of the facts of the biographies of the patriarch and the thief in law and revealed some amazing coincidences.

To begin with, it should be recalled that the attempt on Ivankov's life, after which he was hospitalized with a serious gunshot wound and soon died of peritonitis, was made in the summer of 2009. In the winter of that year, the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church elected Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to replace Aleksei II, who died under very strange circumstances.

It is commonly speculated that it was during the few months that separated the two events that the real Kirill was liquidated, and that his place was taken by Yaponchik, who was discharged from the hospital and whose death was announced. This view is supported by the deep integration of the church into criminal affairs, and also, as noted above, by the strange circumstances of the death of Patriarch Alexis, whose face was hidden from public view at the funeral.

Moreover, at Vyacheslav Ivankov's lavish funeral, organized after his death, the body of the "deceased" was also not shown.
