Can Quantum Computers Dethrone Bitcoin? Not Yet!

Quantum computers employ quantum physics to tackle complicated problems that regular processors cannot. Within 10 minutes, a quantum computer with 1.9 billion qubits could effectively defeat the cryptography protecting Bitcoin. The first 1,000-qubit unit is expected to be finished by the end of 2023. Another potential answer to quantum assaults is lattice-based encryption. This method of encryption introduces mathematical noise that may confound supercomputers. The most difficult problem for cryptographers appears to be switching to a fresh private key. After successfully deploying post-quantum encryption, the system will create new keys. Inactive users may never upgrade their private key, causing major issues. Upgrades to current private keys may introduce new vulnerabilities.
