Ice Fishing For Northern Pike / Michigan Pike Fishing / Ice Fishing Michigan 2021

In this Michigan Fishing Video we are ice fishing for Northern Pike as well as some panfish. This is a new lake for us and neither of us have caught a pike through the ice before. We have done a fair amount of ice fishing Michigan 2021 but we are still ice fishing newbs. The ice fishing started off slow this day but it ended up being a great day of Michigan ice fishing. Neither of us have done much in the way of Michigan Pike Fishing since early winter so it was great to catch a few Northern Pike while ice fishing. Pike fishing with shiners is a great technique all year round and ice fishing is no exception to the rule. We had 2 Northern Pike hit large shiners and one Pike ate a speck minnow. Northern Pike fishing in Michigan is great all over the state and there are plenty of opportunities to get big pike over 30 inches most of the year around. Fishing for northern pike is among my favorite types of fishing but I seldom lake fish for Pike and favor river fishing for Pike most of the year around. I have always wanted to target pike while ice fishing and Jason and I both bought tip ups just the day before the trip in anticipation of potential for decent pike fishing at this particular lake. Fishing tip ups for pike is fun and it makes sense to put one up while you are ice fishing out of a near by hole. The flag makes for a lot of excitement when the tip up goes off and a fish runs with your bait. Handlineing a big pike through a small hole is pretty exciting! We augered out a bunch of ice fishing holes this day and checked them with sonar and moved the tip ups to another location if they sat more than an hour without action. We moved the shanty once and the 2nd location was the one. that paid off with a pike a bass and a few panfish.

As of the time I am editing this it looks like ice fishing may be over for 2021 because the weather is starting to warm and ice is starting to melt and ice fishing already doesn't look very safe with a week of warmer weather on its way. But fear not because I should have at least one more Michigan ice fishing video coming after this maybe 2 if I can go up north for another round of ice fishing. It is also about time for the spring steelhead run so I may just be preoccupied with trout for a bit.
