Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have identified the officer who shot and killed a suspect allegedly holding a gun east of downtown Tuesday night.

Officer Erik Lindberg, 37, has been with LVMPD since 2014 and is part of the Tourist Safety Division in the department's Downtown Area Command.

Lindberg will be on paid administrative leave pending a review of the shooting, according to LVMPD.

LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman briefs reporters on a deadly shooting involving an officer.

Police said they responded to a ShotSpotter notification around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of E. Charleston Boulevard.

People on the scene told officers that a man was shooting from his apartment, according to LVMPD, and officers could see someone "discharge a firearm" from one of the apartments before retreating.

While the officers started to set up containment and wait for more resources, the suspect left his apartment holding a long gun, police said.

Lindberg fired at the suspect, hitting him, and that individual was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified during a briefing as William Holt Jr.

It is LVMPD's policy to identify officers involved in shootings around 48 hours after the incident.
