Dallas Murder Suspect Julio Guerrero Surrenders Following Hours-Long Standoff

A standoff between wanted murder suspect Julio Guerrero and Dallas SWAT, which lasted nearly nine hours, ended with the 28-year-old in custody.

Described by Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia as a “a very violent individual,” Guerrero was wanted for the alleged murder of Francisco Villanueva Rodriguez, on May 2, 2021 at the Tiger Cabaret in Dallas.

Rodriguez was 35 at the time of his death and a father of five.

Police said Guerrero was also wanted for the shooting of a 3-year-old on May 10, 2021. He also has four outstanding aggravated assault felony warrants.

The standoff started the morning of June 2 when members of a U.S. Marshals Service task force (including Dallas police officers) confronted Guerrero at a house near Illinois Ave. in Oak Cliff. Chief Garcia said Guerro responded by shooting several rounds at them. But neither Guerrero nor any officers were struck by bullets.

SWAT was called and set up positions around the house after Guerro barricaded himself inside. After several hours, SWAT used a battering ram attached to their vehicle to bust open the door. But Guerro remained inside. Eventually officers sent a robot into the house and a hole was blown into the roof and tear gas thrown in before Guerro surrendered.

He was booked in the Dallas County jail and faces additional charges of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.
