At approximately 1:15 pm, CHP H-32 responded with Richmond Fire Department, AMR Contra Costa County, East Bay Regional Park District, and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District to a report of a person drowning near Point Pinole.

As H-32 responded to the scene, an AMR Ambulance crew located the patient in distress south of the Point Pinole Regional Park. H-32 arrived overhead and located the person who was clearly in distress approximately 200 yards from shore.

H-32 was able to hoist the patient from the water and deliver him to waiting rescue crews. The patient was transferred to a waiting AMR ambulance for transport to a local hospital for treatment.

The current bay water temperature is slightly above 62 degrees causing the patient to be in critical condition.

East Bay Regional Parks Police will be investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
