The New Orleans Police Department has released body camera footage from an incident where an officer fired shots on Memorial Day.

The shooting took place near the 2000 block of Mirabeau Avenue on May 31.

Police say officers responded to a domestic disturbance at the location and were immediately shot at upon their arrival.

Officers reportedly returned fire, and the perpetrator as well as a 25-year-old female family member were shot during the exchange.

Police say the preliminary investigation of the shooting shows the female was shot by the perpetrator, and the perpetrator was shot by police in the leg.

The female victim is currently in the hospital in stable condition.

According to police, the officers involved fired at least eight shots, and it is unclear how many shots the perpetrator fired.

The perpetrator, 30-year-old Wilton Anderson, was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault on an officer and one count of resisting arrest.

Police say additional charges could be brought forth after learning the gun used in the shooting was stolen in April.

Both police officers involved, officers Hector Acosta and Torrey Riley, have reportedly been placed in administrative reassignment while an investigation takes place and have reportedly been on the force for a little over a year.
