I am very much looking forward to connecting with you and seeing how I can support your goals.
📍 San Carlos is a beautiful neighborhood surrounded within the Navajo community, an area that includes neighborhoods of Allied Gardens, Del Cerro, and Grantville. Like most eastern San Diego neighborhoods and communities, San Carlos was founded in the 1970’s and was named after the founder himself, Carlos Tavares.
Back in the 1950’s, Tavares fortified an entirely new concept of community living. He ditched ideas of traditional, grid-like neighborhoods and instead used the landscape surrounding Mission Bay to design lots with winding roads and scenic views. With this more custom-like design, the Burgener and Tavares Construction Company developed the community of Clairemont which he named after his wife Claire.
Fast forward two decades later, Tavares continued this combination of both traditional and custom lots to the Navajo community in the east to create the community of San Carlos.
Speaking of scenic and natural landscapes, the Lake Murray Reservoir is the central gem to the neighborhood of San Carlos. This area not only provides one of a kind views, but also a place of recreation for those who live in San Carlos and the neighboring communities.
The reservoir spans over 170 acres when full, and is almost 100 feet deep. What was originally the La Mesa Reservoir in 1910, Ed Fletcher and the Cuyamaca Water Company purchased it to be the principal source for water in San Diego. Over a decade it was expanded, renamed, and sold in 1926 to La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Spring Valley Irrigation, then finally to the city of San Diego in 1932.
With the reservoir located within Mission Trails Regional Park, it makes for a great view from not only neighborhoods from all 360 degrees, but also trailheads, and each peak that the park provides.
Lake Murray provides an area for all sorts of recreation. Head over to fish for some Largemouth Bass, Sunfish, or Trout. Instead, take out a boat, canoe, or kayak. Enjoy long walks? Walk the perimeter with a leashed dog or loved one.
The area of San Carlos is surrounded by schools with very well recognized education and athletics of all levels. You have Pershing Middle School and Junior High right off Navajo Road. Soonafter, become one to join the long list of notable Patriots who attended Patrick Henry High closer towards Del Cerro. Some alumni include:
the first female military pilot to fly a tactical jet, Rosemary Bryant Merims Mariner.
the winner of the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary, Melissa Berton.
American actor, model, singer, song writer, and TV personality, RuPaul.
To the other side of San Carlos, resides Grossmont College, located in the north east part of the neighborhood. Believe it or not, the name of the community originated after Ed Fletcher persuaded silent film actor William J. Gross to purchase part of the land, which we know today as the Grossmont area.
The college offers just over 150 degree and certificate programs where an average 1,500 students a year earn Associate in Arts and/or Science degrees, and/or other professional certificates. Grossmont College, nicknamed the, “G-HOUSE,” is also home to very successful athletic programs where some of the country's top athletes compete and earn opportunities as Griffins to transfer to 4 year universities and colleges to pursue their endeavors.
Another one of the most popular geographical areas of San Carlos includes Cowles Mountain. With the back entrance accessible through the community, the 1,593 foot summit gives you unlimited access to some of the best views in San Diego. On a clear day, out west you can see the great pacific, just next door you can see the water from Lake Murray Reservoir, and you can also see the endless landscape from other areas of Mission Trails. And just south from the peak you can view the beautiful Mission Trails Golf Course.
Did you know that in 1990, Mission Trails Golf Course was host to up and coming golf superstar Tiger Woods? The full 18 spreads into areas of San Carlos, Mission Trails, and around the north side of Lake Murray Reservoir. The 6,000 yard course was designed by William Bell, founder of the American Society of Golf Course Architects. Bell has designed over 15 of the most distinguishable golf courses throughout California and Arizona.
Alongside the Par 71, Mission Trails Golf Course also offers grass stalls in it’s driving range, along with banquet packages to host all kinds of meetings and events. So grab some friends, take the day off and enjoy all the amenities Mission Trails Golf Course has to offer.
