A video out of Caledonia, Wisconsin, made waves on the internet during the day Saturday.
A man who goes by the Facebook name "La Savoo" posted a video of his experience during a traffic stop with Caledonia police.
In the video, "La Savoo" a man from Racine, records an officer walking up to his car as the officer appears to toss something in the backseat.
"La Savoo" is heard asking the officer, "Hey Bro what's that?"
The officer is heard responding "What's what?"
La Savoo responded, "What you just threw in here. I got you on camera, bro."
Only a few seconds of the encounter were posted online initially. The Village of Caledonia Police Department Chief Christopher Botsch responded on Facebook and posted body cam footage of the incident Saturday night. In the Facebook post, police said they pulled the car over for speeding 63 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The police post on Facebook said:
"The rear passengers were not wearing their seatbelts and were asked to identify themselves. The driver and rear passengers were later removed from the vehicle. A subsequent search of one of the rear passengers produced an empty corner tear (corner of a plastic baggie) from a passenger’s pocket. The empty corner tear did NOT contain any illegal substance; however, this type of packaging is a common method for holding illegal drugs."
In the officer's body camera video you hear the exact same encounter "La Savoo" posted on social media, but from the officer's point of view.
La Savoo said, "Hey bro you just threw that in here."
The officer responded, "Yeah because it was in his pocket and I don't want to hold on to it.
12 News reached out to "La Savoo" multiple times on several different social media platforms for comment and additional details. He did not respond.
Police said the incident is still under internal review. It's unclear if the officer is still on duty during the internal review.
No arrests were made as a result of the bag incident. The only "arrest/citation arising from this incident was a speeding citation issued to the driver," according to Police.
Police said there are a total of 6 hours of video. All videos will be released in their entirety.
