A stolen vehicle was attempting to flee from Detroit Police then crashed into a semi-truck trapping the driver.

Michigan State Police tweeted that troopers received a call on Friday (September 10) about a stolen Mustang that had fled from the Detroit Police Department. When Troopers found the vehicle, they tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect also fled from troopers.

A pursuit began, but once the suspect's speed began to accelerate, Michigan State Police supervisors "terminated" the pursuit. A few moments later, troopers watched as the Mustang crashed into a semi truck and rushed to the scene.

In a dashcam video released by MSP, you can see troopers arrive at the scene where the car is stuck under the semi and the Mustang begins to catch on fire. Two officers rush to both sides of the vehicle to assess the car and driver. One trooper grabs a fire extinguisher from his patrol car and tries to put the flames out. Officers asked the suspect inside the vehicle if he could get out or move, but the officers could not get him from the car.

Another tweet made by MSP states that the driver was a 26-year-old male. He was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be removed by the Detroit Fire Department.

The driver was then transported to Henry Ford Hospital and suffered broken bones from the crash, but he is expected to survive.

The investigation is still ongoing.
