Body cam video shows man reportedly shooting at Atlanta PD

On November 11th, 2021, around 4:14 am, officers responded to a domestic dispute call at the location of 450 Thomasville Blvd. SE. Two of the responding officers, officer Hayes and officer Golden had previously responded to 911 calls at the location and were aware of the ongoing dispute between the suspect and victim. They were also aware the male offender had an outstanding warrant from the City of Atlanta for domestic battery. In previous calls, the suspect was able to flee from officers prior to their arrival. With this knowledge, officers Hayes and officer Golden strategized a tactical approach by entering the apartment building from a different area to arrest the suspect.

Upon arrival, officer Golden observed the suspect briefly before he attempted to flee on foot. While officer Golden pursued the offender, the offender produced a black pistol and discharged one round towards officer Golden but did not strike him. Officer Hayes who was also in pursuit, was able to see the suspect running after he discharged his firearm towards officer Golden. Officer Hayes observed the suspect’s weapon had suddenly malfunctioned and that is when he proceeded to physically subdue the suspect. Both officer Hayes and officer Golden were able to successfully bring the suspect in custody. Officer Hayes did sustain a minor injury while placing the man into custody.

The arrestee was identified as Keith Ferguson, and further investigation revealed he is a convicted felon with 16 arrest cycles. He was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Obstruction and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

Domestic violence calls can be extremely dangerous for law enforcement officers due to the volatility of the situation and the heightened range of emotions. We are thankful that our officers are safe and that this dangerous suspect was apprehended without incident. We applaud the strategic planning between officer Hayes and officer Golden that enabled them to successfully arrest Ferguson. These officers displayed exemplary discipline and professionalism in this incident. Thanks to their work, we have one less dangerous suspect at large. Job well done!
