A suspect connected to a Nov. 17 officer-involved shooting stole a vehicle, committed robbery and pointed his weapon at police before he was shot and killed by officers, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said during a media briefing.

According to authorities, 36-year-old Steven Thomas instigated numerous events around the valley before police fired 21 shots, according to LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Lazaro Chavez.

First, at about 11:25 a.m., police received a robbery-at-gunpoint call in the 1700 block of N. Decatur Boulevard. Thomas took off with the victim's vehicle from this scene, the caller said. Then at 11:27 a.m., the suspect entered a convenience store in the 5400 block of Vegas Drive and demanded money from their safe. The employee was unable to open the safe, so Thomas fled the scene. A few minutes later at 11:34 a.m., Thomas arrived in the 7200 block of W. Lake Mead Boulevard to a credit union. Police said Thomas demanded money from the tellers before leaving the scene, Lazaro said.

Officers in the area of the credit union saw the stole vehicle on Tenaya Way headed toward Cheyenne Avenue. The suspect then got out of the vehicle in the 3300 block of N. Tenaya Way, faced police and "reached for his waistband," police said.

When Thomas exited the stolen vehicle, Sgt. Donald Graham hit him with his patrol car. Thomas got back up, started walking toward the officers and pointed his gun at them. Officer Amelia Lukac yelled for the suspect to drop his weapon multiple times. When Thomas failed to drop his gun, both Graham and Lukac fired shots, Graham once and Lukac a total of 20 times, police said.

Thomas was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to police, Thomas had told his girlfriend earlier that day that he was "going to do something to get police to shoot him."
