Dashcam footage captures police chasing drink driver through Rossendale and Rochdale

This shocking video shows the moment a drink driver lead police on a dangerous high-speed chase through Rossendale and Rochdale before being captured.

David Freeman failed to stop in Rawtenstall on July 10 for Rossendale Rural Task Force officers who were investigating a spate of Ford Transit thefts in the area.

Unbeknown to the officers Freeman hadn’t stolen the van but had been drinking.

Freeman then drove his white van at high speeds and ignored several red traffic lights overtaking vehicles on the wrong side of the road and on bends in an attempt to get away.

He led Lancashire Police through Rossendale before officers from Greater Manchester Police assisted when he entered Rochdale.

The van was driven through Rochdale town centre into Littleborough where Freeman failed to negotiate a junction.

He was arrested by Rossendale Rural Task Force.

Freeman was given an eight-month jail sentence for drink and dangerous driving, suspended for two years and banned from driving for three years.

Sharing footage of the pursuit on Facebook this morning (December 7), a Rossendale Police spokesperson said: "Road Safety is one of our priorities and with the run up to Christmas we will be doing plenty of drink drive checkpoints and stop checks. Please don’t drink and drive, its not worth the risk of losing your licence or even worse seriously injuring or killing someone.
