On November 27, 2021, Atlanta Police Officers were dispatched to an armed dispute. The victim advised he works for a rideshare company and was giving a ride to 34-year-old Keith Long. During the ride, Mr. Long became angry when the victim did not have any cigarettes for him. Mr. Long pulled two handguns and demanded the victim keep driving or he would be shot. The victim drove to the area of 294 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd where he was able to exit his vehicle and run. While one officer spoke with the victim, a second officer located the victim’s vehicle and checked the area for the suspect.

Officers located a male matching the description of the suspect and approached him after confirming he was the suspect. As they approached, the suspect ran from them. He was apprehended after a short foot pursuit and walked back to the patrol vehicles. Officers recovered a backpack and handgun Mr. Long threw shortly before being apprehended.

The backpack contained marijuana, MDMA, oxycodone, meth, bath salt, cocaine and cough syrup. Officers recovered the suspect’s second handgun still inside the victim’s vehicle. The suspect, 34-year-old Keith Long, was charged with aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle, robbery, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and trafficking narcotics. He was evaluated at Grady Hospital before being transported to the Fulton County Jail.

Every day is different for our officers, they never know what is on the other side of a 911 call, or what they may encounter on any given day. This case is a just a glimpse at some of the calls they respond to and some of the types of individuals they have to contend with. These officers responded quickly and handled the incident professionally. We couldn’t be prouder of them.

Because of their efforts, there is one less dangerous suspect in this neighborhood prowling the streets. We applaud all the officers involved in this incident. Job well done!
