The first time I heard about Rodriguez Cigars in Key West, Florida, I was skeptical. Another boutique cigar company in South Florida? Who needs'em.

But when I got a chance to smoke and review the Rodriguez Series 84 Natural Gran Toro, I fell in love. And today's cigar comes from the same company. Today we're reviewing the Rodriguez Cigars Reserva Privada Robusto, and we're pairing it with some coffee.

The pre-light aroma of this Reserva Privada is very light and cedary. The wrapper leaf is leathery and smooth. After using my v-cutter, the draw was just a smidge tight, but I was able to taste some grass and sweet flavors on the cold draw.

After lighting the cigar, the Rodriguez Cigars Reserva Privada Robusto, despite its lighter appearance, gave off smoke that had the aroma of chocolate cake. Interesting. The first puff reminded me of the RoMa Craft Intemperance EC XVIII, so we're off to a great start.

Through the first third, the draw could've been a little better. The flavors I tasted were spicy with hints of toasted graham cracker and wheat and grass.

Final Thoughts

It's unfortunate, but the tiny glob of excessive glue that held the label to the wrapper was the only flaw in an otherwise fantastic experience with the Rodriguez Cigars Reserva Privada Robusto. The draw could've been a little better, too, but overall, it was an enjoyable experience that was full of rich, delicious flavors.

I really enjoyed this cigar. And, overall, I had a good experience with it, so the Rodriguez Cigars Reserva Privada Robusto earns a CigarScore 4.
