Pursuit suspect attempts to get away when jumping into the San Francisco Bay

Early this morning, CHP H-30 arrived overhead a pursuit involving a felony vehicle, westbound Hwy 4 near Martinez.

H-30 remained overhead allowing officers from CHP - Contra Costa to follow at a safe distance. After exiting the freeway near the Carquinez Bridge, the suspect vehicle stopped and a passenger attempted to hide a bag with an Ar-15 rifle. H-30 captured it all from above.

The suspect continued to flee into the CHP - Oakland where officers deployed “spike strips” to end the pursuit near Gilman Ave. The suspect exited at Powell Street and both occupants fled on foot.

The driver was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

The passenger was taken into custody after hiding in the frigid bay water for approximately 25 minutes.

CHP - Contra Costa will be the investigating agency.
