CPS releases dash cam footage from Rogel Aguilera-Mederos deadly accident that killed 4 people

Miguel Angel Lamas Arellano (24 years old), Doyle Harrison (61 years old), William “Bill” Bailey (67 years old) and Stanley Politano (69 years old) died as a result of the accident on April 25, 2019.

The prosecution was supposed to seek a decision in the range of 20 to 30 years, but the trial was canceled by the governor’s decision.

Bruce Jones, the judge in this case, was not pleased with the Governor’s intervention before the court proceedings were completed. In an order to revoke Judge Jones’ hearing, he said there was no formal notice from Police’s office on the commutation. Instead, the court learned about the new 10-year sentence through news coverage.

Judge Jones went on to write that the court respected the governor’s authority to hand down the decision, “but based on the timing of the decision, this respect does not seem to be mutual.”

The police office issued a statement to Denver 7 at the order of the judge.

“The judge was forced to sentence him to 110 years in prison because of compulsory judgment requirements. This individual was guilty and the same as others who committed similar crimes were punished. So he is put in jail. The 110-year punishment is quite different from what others who committed similar crimes received, and the 10-year punishment is how other similar crimes are punished. There was an urgent need to correct this ruling and restore confidence in the unity and fairness of the criminal justice system. ”

The First Judicial District has released thousands of pages of evidence and hundreds of photographs related to the case presented to the jury during the trial.

One of the videos included in the evidence is from Dashcam, Trooper, Colorado, showing an Aguilera-Mederos semi-track sprinting over his shoulder. Then, on the horizon, a huge plume of black smoke fills the sky.

In another video, a semi-truck is captured with smoke flying behind, even before the crash. In an interview with an investigator, Aguilera-Mederos said he had never seen smoke.

“If it’s smoking, how do you keep driving? That doesn’t mean it’s not logical,” Aguilera Mederos said through an interpreter.

Aguilera-Mederos said he had a commercial driver’s license (CDL) in Texas and had it for 11 months before the crash. He had a permit for 6 months before the actual CDL.

He told investigators that he wasn’t the first to drive in the mountains of Colorado. Aguilera-Mederos says he had probably driven Colorado three times before the crash, and more while he was hired by another company. He also said he saw signs of a runaway ramp rather than a real ramp.

Aguilera-Mederos also claimed that all of the semi-trucks were new and working well, and said the company had its own mechanic to check the trucks before traveling.

Shortly before the crash, Aguilera-Mederos told investigators that the semi-truck was running at 85 mph and he thought he would die.

A Colorado patrol official wrote in a report that the semi-truck was so badly burned that it could not be inspected.

Denver7 spoke with some of Bailey’s family who felt that the evidence presented in the trial was lost in social media posts and a swarm of protests seeking a lighter judgment. Bailey’s younger brother, Duane, wants to make sure that the victims in this case remember who they were, not the accident that killed them.

“He was a very nice person. The smartest person I know. That is, I don’t even have a candle on him. Interesting. He wrote poetry. He is good at trivia. But he. It’s a shame that my life has been minimized and no one cares, or at least that’s the impression we’re getting, “Duan said.

William Bailey and his niece, Amy, described him as “the best uncle in the world.”

Duane said he was disappointed with Aguilera Mederos’ new 10-year sentence. He would have liked 20 years, but said he would have been open at any time determined by Judge Jones. Duane said he understood the case better than the governor because Judge Jones heard all the evidence presented during the trial.
