CHP plane catches' speeder while patrolling over the interstate 80 in Oakland

The CHP Airplane 37 (Air-37) is catching a high speed driver in the act. The pilot spotted this high speed vehicle traveling eastbound on I-80.

The pilot notified the flight officer, who quickly acquired the vehicle with Air-37’s on-board camera.

Air-37 continued following the vehicle as it traveled at speeds up to 130 mph. The vehicle exited onto San Pablo Dam Rd, where it continued on surface streets at speeds in excess of 80 mph. At one point, the driver lost control of his vehicle when attempting to negotiate a turn onto Bristlecone Dr.

With assistance from our allied agency partner, CONTRA COSTA SHERIFF-OFFICIAL PAGE, Air-37 was able to direct responding officers to detain the driver, until a CHP - Oakland ground unit arrived on scene. The driver was cited for reckless driving.

Oakland CHP is the handling agency.
