There’s no firm answer to the question of how long does it take to hear back from a co-op board interview. This is because the actual timeline varies significantly by building. There are so many factors which influence the response time. For example, how busy is the board and how responsive is the condo or co-op building’s managing agent?
The quickest you'll hear back is potentially the next morning or within 24 hours. If you have an interview after work (which is pretty common), let's say you do the interview at 6pm on a Thursday, you might hear back on Friday morning.
On the flip side, it could potentially take up to a week to receive the formal decision after the interview is completed, even if it went really well. So as far as how to set expectations, the first thing to do is just reflect on how the interview itself unfolded.
If you got the sense that they were just giving you an orientation about the building and telling you when the trash day is and so forth, it's a solid indication that you will eventually be approved, whether it's 24 hours later or within a week.
Now as far as how you'll receive the decision, again this does vary based on the building and based on the specific managing agent for that building. You might hear back from your attorney, or the managing agent might relay the decision to the buyer’s agent, the listing agent, or some combination.
