Two children were seriously hurt in a fiery crash in Flagler County Monday night.

It happened just after 9 p.m. on I-95 northbound near mile marker 286.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle failed to brake and slammed into another vehicle that was stopped in traffic.

The first vehicle then crossed the right lane and grassy area into the north weigh station and caught fire.

In the first vehicle, a 33-year-old woman and her 31-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries. An 8-year-old girl suffered serious injuries and a 7-year-old boy suffered critical injuries.

In the second vehicle, which was rear-ended by the first, a 20-year-old woman and her 18-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

Detective Adam Gossett was first on the scene.

He literally took the shirt off his back to treat one of the patients until first responders arrived.

The children were treated at the hospital.
