RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first player to win 15 bones or to be the last player with cards left in their hand. Each player picks a pup and takes its 3 face cards and 1 butt card. Give each player a mischievous cat card. Players look at their own cards but keep them hidden from others. Each player places 1 card face down to a personal pile in front of them. Pick a player to go first then play proceeds clockwise.
On your turn you can either place a card or make a bet. To place a card, pick a card from your hand and place it face down on top of your personal pile in front for you. After you place a card, your turn ends and the next player clockwise goes.
Instead of placing a card, you may make a bet. To bet, declare to everyone the number of cards that you think you can flip over without flipping over a butt card. However, when you place a bet, all the other players may raise the bet number. There are no turns when raising the bet and you may raise the bet number as many times as you like. Then, when no player is willing to increase the bet, the player with the highest bet number must flip over the number of cards they bet. The first card they flip must always be the top card of their own personal pile, then they may flip the top card from any player’s pile, including their own, in any order they want, until they’ve reached their number.
If you successfully complete a bet without revealing a butt card, then you win that number of bone tokens. If, however, you reveal a butt card, then you are unsuccessful. Gather all your cards together in your hand and the player who’s butt card you revealed, discards one of your cards at random, face down, without anyone but you seeing it, to a central discard pile.
After a player finishes flipping cards for their bet, the round ends. All the players gather up their cards into their hands and each player places 1 card face down. The last player who played a card goes first in the next round. If you reveal the mischievous cat card, then the bet ownership transfers to whoever played that mischievous cat. That player then must continue the bet from where the original player left off and will claim all the bones of the bet if they're successful; or lose one card if they’re unsuccessful.
Revealing a mischievous cat does not count as a card towards the bet count. For example, if you bet 5 and on your 4th flip, reveal a mischievous cat, then the player who played the mischievous cat now takes over the bet and must flip over two more cards. If you flip over a mischievous cat in your own face down pile, then ignore it and immediately flip over the next card in your pile. The first player to collect 15 or more bones or is the last player with cards left in their hand is the winner!
