The tortoise is the common name for the genus of the tortoise family in the taxonomy. Giant tortoises range from Africa to Asia. There are only 2 species in this genus: Indian star turtle Burmese star turtle Extinct Tenerife giant tortoise , of which there are at least five separate clades.
