A woman died after a driver who was eluding police crashed into her vehicle in Fort Worth late Tuesday night, officials said.

The crash happened shortly before midnight at the intersection of Trinity Boulevard and South Main Street, just south of Euless in far northeast Fort Worth.

Euless officers had tried to pull over a Ford Focus with expired plates, but the driver "began to quickly accelerate to evade the officer," according to a police news release.

The officer chose not to chase the vehicle "due to the vehicle committing only traffic offenses," the release said.

The car kept heading east on Trinity Boulevard for about a half-mile when the officer saw "bright flash of light" at the intersection of Trinity and South Main. When the officer drove up to the intersection, he saw the suspect had crashed into another car.

The suspect left the scene on foot, while another man was still trapped in his vehicle, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle, a woman, was unresponsive. MedStar responded and the woman was pronounced dead.

Her name has not been released.

The name of the suspect has not been released. While he initially fled the scene, police said he was taken into custody on a charge of evading arrest.
